DrayTek Weekly Update 10 September 2025

DrayTek Weekly Update 10 September 2025

The new DrayTek DrayOS 5 routers have removed SSL, L2TP and PPTP encryptions from their VPN offering.

However, we now have IPsec, WireGuard and OpenVPN encryptions. IPsec has three different types: IKEv1/IKEv2, EAP, and Xauth. These last two modes require certificates to be created and exported to the client site, but the IKEv1/v2 use only a PSK (pre-shared key), which is very easy to set up for Teleworkers who use remote dial-out VPN.

This short video demonstrates how to create an IPsec Tunnel using a Pre Shared Key on a Vigor2136 using the SmartVPN client.

How to configure an OpenVPN tunnel on a DrayTek 2136 with SmartVPN client

This video demonstrates how to configure an OpenVPN tunnel on a DrayTek Vigor2136 with SmartVPN client in Windows.

This video provides a brief overview of the DrayTek Vigor167 modem/router.

Note, the Vigor167 is configured in bridging mode by default, meaning the DHCP server is not enabled. To log into it to make any changes, you will first need to set a static IP address on your PC, for example, 192.168.1.40, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0. For more information on how to do this, see the video - Configuring the DrayTek Vigor167 for Bridge Mode
